Crowns

We can repair or restore a tooth that has become damaged or decayed with a crown.

Crowns sit over the top of the tooth, repairing the cusp, and allowing us to restore a natural tooth to full function. They are also often sometimes used in conjunction, or after, other treatments such as for bridges or after a root canal treatment where the treated tooth has been damaged.

Today, crowns are often made of porcelain, ceramic, or Zirconia although in the past, they were often made of a precious metal such as gold. Modern crowns have the benefit of being both highly durable and very natural-looking, so no one need know that you’re wearing one. Usually placed over two appointments, we will first have to prepare the tooth before taking digital scans so that your personal crown can be made just for you.

We’ll then provide a temporary crown for you to wear while we wait for your crown to be made. When the crown is ready, we’ll place it for you here at the practice. It’s worth noting that gold crowns still have clinical indications, but their use is usually limited to posterior teeth where they are less visible.
